Day 14: Show n Tell, Wiki, Webquest, mind-mapping, collaboration & Story telling

Added everyone's show and tell to my scoop.it site making scoop.it a bit more useful. We did a shared assignment on wiki and webquest was a nice collab. project among the teachers. Used padlet.com and popplet.com to to do some mind mapping and collaboration. For story telling we used storify.com. Using storify, we created an easy to build story about a topic of choice, mine being the significance of Black history beyond American history. Essentially it was a matter of choosing a topic, providing 3 areas of interest about the topic and using the search scroll on the right I added corresponding links. Very simple process. Learned how to cut glass in art class today. We have our weekly evaluation and then it's back on the road again to Clarksdale sippi sippi... Teresa said her husband didn't believe I make that trip, she told me, well guy, I do and I have an embarrassing sunburn on my right forearm from when I did it w/o covering up once day. Been peeling all day (I know, anti-sexy). Lunch was DA BOMBAY at the cafeteria: watermelon chunks, corn, potatoes, fried catfish, blackened catfish w/ rice, strawberry ice cream root beer float. Got my grub on so tough I literally lost track of time but still made it back in time to get it going. Got an internship for this summer class I'm simultaneously taking and meeting w/ Dr. Lee after we're done to finish up a project I owe him. Start my internship tomorrow, no rest for the weary... OOOOH, and True Blood, the final season kicks off this Sunday, gotta check that out some how, hoping it wraps up on point! Get turnt up for my fellow GAETI participant... The Teresa, Mildred, Sawyer, Brewer and I group smashed through our quest project by the way giving us a nice advantage for next week and one less thing to worry about this weekend. Also added my motorcycle route from MSU to home, putting miles on this machine!

  1. I hope you have a place you are staying near or on campus during the week. That would be a killer drive everyday. I thought my drive was long but 141 miles beats 98 any day. Be careful in your travels.

  2. MAN! That's not the 1/2 of it... I thought I was going to have a restful weekend, lol NOT! I'm treasurer of the gun club here in town, after that meeting, had to move my bus across the street, starter died, so I'm pushing the bus, BUS, 25 passenger BUS across the street w/ one of my former students and a neighbor. That was not a lovely situation, we moved it a good 60 or 70 feet and sought help, got a neighbor to help and we were done. Then on to Horn Lake, why you ask? For the past 3 weeks or so I've been without a phone (dropped it in the sink while washing dishes). Finally acquired a Metro PCS phone BUT it's not unlocked... Gave up trying to unlock it and found a metro PCS (closest one is guess where, that's right horn lake...). En route to Horn Lake, place closes at 7 I left at 4:30 so plenty of time to get there right?!? WRONG!!! I get about 9 miles away from the destination and a hail storm from who knows where is whipping me like a kid that stole candy from the store!!! I was hardly dressed for the weather (t-shirt, shorts, socks and shoes (not the boots). Needless to say, I'm instantly soaked to the bone barely keeping the bike straight on the road and thankfully I spy w/ my little eye a gas station to my left. During the storm I used up most of my electricity trying to stay on the road without crashing, even cars were pulling over, I didn't have that luxury... So, made it to the gas station and there are like 8 bikers in there from Arkansas and they were just cracking up at me, at this point I was just happy to be inside off the road but so cold and wet I really couldn't hear what they were saying. (FYI still soggy as I'm writing this comment. Soon as the storm broke I raced to the Metro PCS place but alas, they were closed. As Maxwell Smart would say, "missed 'em by that much..." So, rolled up a bit more to the library, and noticed a Walmart in Southaven also sold Metro PCS service, soooo I'm thinking (winning!) all is not lost. Didn't look at any other locations or times. Str8 to Walmart I go and literally less than a block away, the bike ran outta juice! So now I'm pushing on the highway just passing i55 on goodman road, found a place to charge up and walked over to this McDonald's. Plan = get a room somewhere VERY close and VERY cheap, Metro PCS opens tomorrow at 11, get the phone head back home finish the laundry I started, charge up and head back to Starkville. Based on my successful trip to MSU most recently I know that I have to have a full charge to get to Greenwood, the fill up to get to Eupora. Fill up once more and I'm on campus. The other trick is, in order to preserve the juices, I have to travel at 30-35MPH to cover a 60Mile distance due to the hills etc. that take up more juice. With a 4 hour charging time minimum my Sunday is basically shot! Should get home about 2pm prep for the final week head out NLT 6 (giving it charge time) make it to Greenwood about 8 Charge up some more to leave around midnight, get to Eupora around 2, Charge up one last time and leave around 6am to make it to GAETI on tilme... A day in the life of Silence was brought to you by: Free internet at McDonald's and the Silence Hope Foundation lol... Bringing my camera with me this week so we should have some great GAETI shots for our reunion ;) OK Still cold and tired gotta google up a cheap hotel room!
